"From Slices to 3D: Advanced Computation Techniques for CT and MRI Imaging"

On February 22, 2025, the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering Society of India (BMESI)  at Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering & Technology proudly hosted a Guest Lecture and Hands On Workshop titled "From Slices to 3D: Advanced Computation Techniques for CT and MRI Imaging." The event aimed to shed light on cutting-edge techniques in medical imaging, attracting students, faculty, and professionals alike and was started with the blessings of Chief Guest Chairman Shri. B. Ramachandiran, Founder Smt. Radha Ramachandiran, and Guests of Honour Managing Director Shri. A. R. Rajiv Krishnan and Executive Director Smt. Moushini  Rajivkrishnan. With the unwavering support and guidance of Chief Operating Officer Dr. B. Vidhya, the event was organized successfully, creating a platform for merging AI with healthcare.

Welcome Address was delivered by Mrs. S. Thangapriya, Assistant Professor, Department of Bio Medical Engineering and with vote of thanks by Mr. Balaji. S, Head of the Department, Bio Medical Engineering.

The session was graced by the presence of our dynamic Principal, Dr. S. Pradeep Devaneyan, and Vice Principal, Dr. K.B. Jayarraman, who both delivered insightful opening remarks. They emphasized the pivotal role of advanced imaging techniques in modern medical practices and encouraged participants to harness these technologies for better healthcare outcomes. 

It’s great to hear that the event was energetic and impactful! The participation of Deans and HoDs must have added immense value to the students' learning experience.

The highlight of the event was the engaging lecture by Mr. P. Satish Kumar, an Assistant Professor from the Department of Bio Medical Engineering at St. Peters Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Mr. Kumar delivered into the latest advancements in computational techniques for CT and MRI imaging, particularly the transition from 2D slices to 3D imaging. His presentation was both enlightening and inspiring, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.

The Event well organized by Mr. Balaji. S, HOD, BME and Co-ordinator by  Mrs. S .Thangapriya Assistant Professor along with dynamic biomedical  Faculty team  and  the  student coordinators  Shahina J (IV year),  Saravanan S. (III year) and Harini R. (II year).

       Following the lecture, participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a hands-on workshop using 3D Slicer, a powerful software platform for medical image informatics, image processing, and three-dimensional visualization. This practical session allowed participants to gain first hand experience with 3D imaging techniques, further enhancing their understanding and skills in the field.

           The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, wherein special appreciation was extended to Mr.Vimalraj from BME II year for his commendable efforts in inviting the esteemed guest and ensuring the success of the Lecture and Workshop. The event was well-received, leaving attendees with valuable knowledge and a deeper appreciation for advanced computation techniques in medical imaging. Overall, the Lecture and workshop was a resounding success, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and knowledge among all participants.
