- INTRODUCTION
Industrial visits are an important component of technical education as they provide students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to professional environments and understand the real-world applications of concepts learned in the classroom. Such visits enable students to observe advanced technologies, understand industrial practices and develop a broader perspective of their respective fields.
With this objective, Srivenkateshwaraa College of Engineering and Technology, Ariyur, Puducherry, organized an industrial visit to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bengaluru, on 30 September 2026.
The visit was organized for 70 students, accompanied by 7 staff coordinators, from the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and the Department of Internet of Things and Cyber Security with Blockchain Technology.
The visit provided the students with valuable exposure to India's space research and technological ecosystem. It also enabled them to understand the importance of advanced computing, data processing, communication systems, connected technologies, cybersecurity and intelligent systems in highly sophisticated engineering applications.
- OBJECTIVES OF THE INDUSTRIAL VISIT
The major objectives of the visit were:
- To provide students with practical exposure to India's space research and technological activities.
- To bridge the gap between theoretical classroom learning and practical applications.
- To familiarize students with the role of software, data and communication technologies in space missions.
- To understand the applications of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in advanced technological environments.
- To expose IoT students to sensors, communication systems, data acquisition and connected systems.
- To create awareness about the importance of cybersecurity in mission-critical systems.
- To understand the significance of secure communication and data integrity.
- To encourage students to develop innovative projects and pursue research-oriented activities.
- To provide students with awareness of career opportunities in emerging technologies and research organizations.
- To motivate students to pursue higher education, internships and careers in advanced technological domains.
- PARTICIPANTS
A total of 70 students participated in the industrial visit.
The students were from the following departments:
- Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science
- Department of Internet of Things and Cyber Security with Blockchain Technology
The students were accompanied and guided by 7 staff coordinators from the college.
The participation of both departments made the visit particularly meaningful because the technologies studied by the students are increasingly interconnected in modern engineering applications.
- VISIT TO ISRO, BENGALURU
The visit to ISRO, Bengaluru, provided the students with an opportunity to gain an insight into the technological ecosystem associated with India's space programme.
The students were introduced to the importance of space technology and the multidisciplinary nature of space missions. They gained awareness of how engineering, computing, communication, electronics, software, data processing and scientific research work together to support complex missions.
The students understood that the successful execution of a space mission requires not only advanced hardware but also sophisticated software systems, reliable communication networks, accurate data processing, secure information systems and effective mission management.
The visit therefore provided a valuable opportunity for the students to connect their academic subjects with real-world technological applications.
- LEARNING OUTCOMES – ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DATA SCIENCE
The visit was highly relevant to students of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
Students gained an understanding of the importance of data in scientific and technological applications. Modern space missions generate large volumes of data through satellites, sensors, communication systems and ground-support infrastructure.
The students were able to relate their academic learning to areas such as:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine Learning
- Data Analytics
- Data Visualization
- Image Processing
- Computer Vision
- Pattern Recognition
- Anomaly Detection
- Predictive Analytics
- Big Data Processing
The visit helped students understand that Artificial Intelligence and Data Science have applications extending beyond conventional software industries. They can contribute significantly to scientific research, satellite-data analysis, remote sensing, image interpretation and intelligent decision-making.
The experience encouraged students to explore innovative applications of AI and data analytics in aerospace and other advanced technology domains.
- LEARNING OUTCOMES – IoT AND CYBER SECURITY WITH BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY
The visit was equally valuable for students of the Department of Internet of Things and Cyber Security with Blockchain Technology.
Students were able to relate their knowledge of IoT to the use of sensors, data acquisition systems, communication networks and connected technological infrastructure.
The visit helped students appreciate the importance of:
- Sensors and embedded systems
- Data acquisition
- Device connectivity
- Communication networks
- Real-time monitoring
- Data transmission
- Network security
- Authentication
- Encryption
- Data integrity
- Threat detection
- Secure communication
The students also developed a better understanding of why cybersecurity is essential in mission-critical environments. The protection of systems, communication channels and data is extremely important when dealing with sophisticated technological infrastructure.
The visit also encouraged students to explore potential applications of Blockchain technology in areas involving data integrity, traceability and trusted information sharing.
- INTERDISCIPLINARY LEARNING
One of the most important outcomes of the industrial visit was the students' understanding of interdisciplinary engineering.
Modern technological systems cannot be developed effectively through a single discipline. Advanced systems require the integration of multiple areas of knowledge.
The students understood the relationship between:
Artificial Intelligence + Data Science + IoT + Cybersecurity + Communication + Electronics + Software Engineering
For example, sensors may collect data, communication systems may transmit the data, cybersecurity mechanisms may protect it, data-science techniques may process and analyze it, and Artificial Intelligence algorithms may identify patterns and support decision-making.
This interdisciplinary perspective was particularly beneficial because the participating students came from two emerging technology departments.
- CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL AWARENESS
The industrial visit provided students with valuable career awareness and motivation.
The exposure to a premier scientific and technological organization encouraged students to consider career and higher-education opportunities in areas such as:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Data Science
- Machine Learning
- Aerospace Technology
- Satellite Technology
- Internet of Things
- Cybersecurity
- Embedded Systems
- Software Engineering
- Data Analytics
- Remote Sensing
- Image Processing
- Research and Development
The visit also reinforced the importance of continuous learning, technical competence, teamwork, discipline, innovation and problem-solving skills.
Students were encouraged to look beyond their regular curriculum and develop skills that can help them contribute to advanced technological projects.
