The Nursing Education Unit of ICON organized an enriching and informative Interdepartmental Seminar on Comprehensive Cancer Care, themed "United by Unique", on the 5th of February, 2025.
The Nursing Education Unit of ICON organized an enriching and informative Interdepartmental Seminar on Comprehensive Cancer Care, themed "United by Unique", on the 5th of February, 2025. This seminar aimed to highlight the diverse facets of cancer care, focusing on advancements in treatment modalities, psychosocial support for cancer patients, and the importance of prevention and early detection. The event brought together experts from various departments of nursing to share their knowledge and research on cancer care. The seminar commenced at 9:00 AM with a Welcome Address and Orientation to the Theme by the organizing committee. This opening session set the stage for the day's discussions, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts in cancer care and the importance of an integrated approach in treating cancer patients.
The session was presented in the sequential manner. Mrs. R. Batmavadi, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Surgical Nursing deliberated on Introduction to Cancer and Its Innovative Treatment Modalities. This session provided an insightful introduction to cancer, covering its pathophysiology, types, and innovative treatment methods. Prof. Dr. Chandralekha E, HOD, Department of Child Health Nursing, discussed pediatric malignancies, focusing on the unique challenges faced in diagnosing and treating cancer in children. Prof. Dr. Jayanthi K, HOD, Department of Mental Health Nursing, addressed the psychosocial challenges faced by cancer patients, including mental health issues like anxiety, depression, and fear of mortality. Prof. Dr. Rathidevi S, HOD, Department of Community Health Nursing, shared crucial information on cancer prevention, emphasizing lifestyle changes, early screening, and public health initiatives aimed at reducing cancer incidence.
Prof. Dr. Jamunarani G, HOD, Department of OBG, focused on gynecological malignancies, with discussing the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancers affecting the female reproductive system. The seminar concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the organizing committee, expressing gratitude to all the speakers, patrons, and participants for their contributions and attendance. The programme was presided by Dr. Prof. Malliga Kannan, Principal, felicitated and guided by Dr. Rajeswari. R, Vice Principal cum IQAC Coordinator and organized by Dr. RathiDevi. S, NEU Coordinator in the befitted manner.
