The International Yoga Day 2023 was celebrated on the official theme, “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, which also represents as “One Earth, One Family, One Future” on 21.06.2023 & 22.06.2023. This theme emphasizes the healthy being of every individual irrespective of any discrimination with the regular practice of Yoga.

The International Yoga Day 2023 was celebrated on the official theme, “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, which also represents as “One Earth, One Family, One Future” on 21.06.2023 & 22.06.2023. This theme emphasizes the healthy being of every individual irrespective of any discrimination with the regular practice of Yoga. 

"Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" is a Sanskrit phrase that can be translated as "the world is one family" or "the whole world is one single family." It is derived from ancient Indian scriptures known as the Maha Upanishads. This principle reflects the idea that all human beings are interconnected and that they should live in harmony and cooperation with one another, transcending boundaries of nationality, religion, race, or any other form of division.  The center has organized a plethora of activities for students of all years ranging from asanas, pranayam to Suryanamaskar

This was carried out as per plan. The first event was held on demonstration of yoga, at Primary Health Centre, Ariyur, Puducherry. Dr. Deepti Maria, Medical Officer, Ayurveda, Primary Health Centre, Ariyur and her team coordinated for B. Sc Nursing Fourth Year students by various asanas and meditation practices. This programme was graced by Dr. Prof. M. Malliga, Principal and faculties of Department of Community Health Nursing. Secondly the yoga namely sudarshan kriya was made to practice among the faculties. Sudarshan Kriya which is a Sanskrit term meaning “proper vision by purifying action” is a simple yet powerful rhythmic breathing technique with slow, medium and fast cycles. Sudarshan Kriya purifies at the cellular level and energizes to be untouched by stress and this practice created peace among the faculties.

This programme was followed by mass yoga performance by 100 B. Sc Nursing students of II year and III year on 21. 06.2023 & 22.06.2023 from 2.00 pm to 4. 30 pm  which was trained by ISHA Foundation volunteers (Mrs. Kokila & Ms. Farwin), helped in enhancement of vitality, focus, memory and productivity, stabilizing the body, mind and emotions among the students and faculties. Warm up exercises were taken and all the students practiced & performed sitting and standing asanas, importance of these were explained simultaneously. 

The programme was added with Session on Holistic health and wellbeing by volunteers (Namely Mr. Aju Baskaran, Mr. Ganesan & Mr. Vishal) of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidhyalaya, Rajayoga Meditation Centre on 22. 06. 2023 from 11.00 am to 1. 00 pm, which offered a clear understanding of knowledge on social, moral values and spiritual values in the creation of harmony. This programme was presided by Dr. Vidhya, Chief Operating Officer, SVGI with presidential address eliciting that” Yoga, an ancient Art and Science of health and harmony have vast potential for physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health of every human being.

The series of events was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Prof. Malliga.M, Principal, Dr. Prof. R. Rajeswari, IQAC Coordinator Cum Vice Principal and it was organized by Dr.S. RathiDevi, HOD of Community Health Nursing and thus International Yoga Day celebrations ended with a huge success
