Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Physiotherapy (SVCOPT) marked World Physiotherapy Day 2025 with a successful health education program and a free rural medical and physiotherapy camp, emphasizing the significance of physiotherapy and promoting awareness of healthy ageing.

On Tuesday, 9th September 2025, the celebrations began with a health education awareness program conducted at the hospital's OPD registration area (SVMCH&RC). The initiative aimed to educate patients and the general public about the vital role of physiotherapy in healthy ageing, preventive care, and rehabilitation. The event was well-received, with enthusiastic participation from patients, hospital staff, and students. The program was graced by Dr. G. Josepraj, Medical Superintendent; Mr. Pugazendhi, Deputy General Manager; and Prof. Jeyathi S., MPT (Ortho), PhD, Principal.

Continuing the celebration, a free rural medical and physiotherapy camp was held on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, at Eripakkam village under the Nettapakkam commune. The outreach initiative witnessed an overwhelming response, with 110 patients registering for consultation. Specialists from General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Ophthalmology provided comprehensive medical care. Notably, 50% of the patients also availed physiotherapy services. Patients requiring further evaluation or treatment were referred to Valavanur or Ariyur hospitals using referral slips.

Adding a unique touch to the event, physiotherapy students performed a community-level skit to raise awareness about the importance of active lifestyles and healthy ageing. This not only educated the public but also provided valuable field exposure and learning opportunities for the students. Key faculty members and facilitators included Mr. T. Bharaneedharan, Clinical Incharge; Prof. Neethi; Mr. S. Ramkumar, Senior Assistant Professor; along with tutors Ms. Suvetha and Mr. Gokulchandiran. Final-year undergraduate and first-year postgraduate physiotherapy students played an active role in both patient care and public education, demonstrating the importance of community engagement in healthcare delivery.
