Drug Abuse Awareness Programme through the NSS and the Anti-Narcotic Cell on 15th July 2026

Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering & Technology, Ariyur, Puducherry, jointly organized a Drug Abuse Awareness Program through the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Anti-Narcotic Cell on 15th July 2026 at 10.30 AM in the PG Seminar Hall. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal Dr. S. Pradeep Devaneyan, Vice Principal Dr. K. B. Jayarraman, and Academic Dean Dr. N. Balaji, with the objective of creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and motivating them to lead a healthy and responsible life.

The programme was coordinated by NSS Programme Officer Mr. L. Selvakumar along with NSS Department Coordinators Mrs. K. Mayavady and Mrs. A. Lalitha. Faculty members, NSS volunteers, Anti-Narcotic Cell members, and a large number of students enthusiastically participated in the awareness programme.

The event commenced with a welcome address, followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest, Mr. G. Kalaiselvan, Inspector of Police, Villianur Police Station. In his keynote address, he emphasized the increasing threat of drug abuse among youth and explained the serious physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of narcotic substance abuse. He encouraged students to stay away from drugs, develop positive habits, and become responsible citizens who contribute towards building a safe and healthy society.

The Chief Guest also highlighted the role of educational institutions, parents, and students in preventing substance abuse. He urged the students to avoid negative peer pressure, remain focused on their academic and career goals, and immediately report any drug-related activities to the appropriate authorities. His practical examples and motivational speech created a strong awareness among the participants.

An interactive session followed the address, during which students actively raised questions regarding drug addiction, preventive measures, legal provisions, and rehabilitation facilities. The Chief Guest answered all the queries and encouraged students to spread the message "Say No to Drugs, Choose a Better Life" among their friends, families, and society.
