Indirani College of Nursing, a unit of the Sri Venkateshwaraa Group of Institutions, proudly organized the XIII National Conference on the thought-provoking theme, “Rethinking and Redefining Psychiatric Nursing: Novel Trends and Contemporary Challenges.” This prestigious event was held in recognition of the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, highlighting the institution’s commitment to advancing the field of psychiatric nursing and addressing contemporary challenges in the discipline. The conference took place on 12th March 2025 at the Auditorium of ICON, under the visionary leadership of Shri. B. Ramachandiran, Chairman.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. B. Vidhya MDS, Chief Operating Officer, who addressed the gathering on the various challenges faced in mental health nursing. She highlighted the multifaceted challenges faced in mental health nursing, shedding light on the profound responsibility of working with individuals in the depths of emotional and psychological distress. The event was enriched with an esteemed panel of resource persons selected with great care. The experts, hailing from various prominent institutions across the state, included representatives from JIPMER, IGMC & RI, SCHOD & Agni Siraguagal Transgender Federation, Venkateshwara College of Nursing, Chennai Meenakshi College of Nursing, Chennai and NIMHANS, Bangalore. The resource persons including Dr. Natarajan.V, Dr. Avin, Dr. S. Velkumary, Dr. Sheethal.K, Dr. P. Jayanthi, Dr. Fabiola Mercy Dhanaraj, Dr. G. Balamurugan, and Dr. R. R. Kavitha, delivered insightful sessions on diverse and vital topics, such as: Challenges in Mental Health, Psychiatric Care in Traumatic Events, Yogic Approaches for Mental Health, Ensuring Mental Health of Transgender Individuals, Current Legal and Ethical Considerations in Mental Health, Forensic Psychiatric Nursing, Digital Mental Health and Artificial Intelligence in Clinical Care of Patients with Mental Illness.
Prof. Dr. Malliga M., Principal of Indirani College of Nursing, eloquently unveiled the theme of the conference and expertly guided the program towards its resounding success. Prof. Dr. K. Jayanthi extended a warm welcome to all attendees and Prof. Dr. R. Rajeswari, Vice Principal felicitated the gathering, ensuring an inviting and encouraging atmosphere. The conference attracted a remarkable turnout, with around 300 delegates from renowned nursing institutions such as Vinayaga Mission College of Nursing, College of Nursing, Sri Manakula Vinayagar College of Nursing, Mother Theresa Post Graduate Research Institute of Health Sciences, East Coast College of Nursing, RAAK College of Nursing, PIMS College of Nursing, Sri Lakshmi Narayana College of Nursing, and Staff Nurses from Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. The feedback from the delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the conference’s relevance and the high quality of the sessions. The observer of the conference also praised the usefulness and impact of the event. The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, followed by the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of the conference. The event was a triumphant victory, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration in the field of psychiatric nursing.
