The recent educational visit undertaken for the First-Year B-Tech students of  disciplines BME, EEE, MECH., CSE A, ECE & CSE B departments   to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Puducherry for the convenient  dates 24/9/2024, 25/9/2024,26/9/2024 and  30/9/2024 FN sessions only.   The primary objective of this visit was to enhance students’ understanding of Meteorological Science and its applications in engineering and technology. The IMD serves as a crucial institution for weather forecasting, research and climate study, making it an ideal location for our students to explore practical applications of their academic studies.  The strength of our first year students  participated in the educational visit was 110 boy students and 92 girl students from the above mentioned disciplines and two faculty members from Physics branch Dr. M.Thirumarran & Dr.N.Mythili were accompanied with the students. The duration of visit for the educational visit programme was three hours from morning 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM on all the visit days.

The students were briefed on the history and significance of the IMD in national weather forecasting. Students are engaged with professionals who explained various meteorological instruments and technologies used in data collection and analysis. A guided tour of the weather observation and forecasting facilities allowed the students to observe real-time operations and equipment. Also the students had the opportunity to ask questions, fostering an interactive learning environment, and enhanced understanding of meteorological principles and their relevance to engineering.

The students are exposed to practical applications of theoretical knowledge in Environmental Monitoring and Forecasting and increased interest in research and development in Meteorology and Climate science. The students were expressed their high satisfaction with the visit, highlighting the value of practical exposure and real-world insights gained from the professionals at IMD. This educational visit successfully met its objectives and provided a unique learning experience for our First-Year BTech students. We believe such initiatives are essential for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.  Certainly the submitted Geo Photographs will highlight our college students educational trip and its significance of Meteorological Science, Instruments and its applications.

We extend our gratitude to the resource Person Mr.Balamurugan, Senior Meteorologist, IMD Puducherry for his warm welcome and informative sessions. We look forward to organizing similar visits in the future to further enrich our students' learning experiences.
