International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on 26 June 2026
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on 26 June 2026 with the objective of creating awareness among the public, particularly the youth, about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life.
On this occasion, the NSS Unit of Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering & Technology actively participated in the Anti-Drug Awareness Rally organized in Puducherry. The rally was flagged off by Shri R. Sathiyasundaram, DIG (Law & Order), Puducherry Police, in the gracious presence of the Hon'ble Villianur MLA, Shri B. Ravikumar, and Dr. Vidhya Baskaran, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Sri Venkateshwaraa Group of Institutions.
More than 100 NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the rally, carrying placards and raising awareness slogans promoting a drug-free society. The rally attracted the attention of the general public and effectively conveyed the message of preventing drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Addressing the gathering, Shri R. Sathiyasundaram, DIG (Law & Order), Puducherry Police, emphasized the importance of youth participation in the fight against drug abuse. He encouraged students to stay away from narcotic substances, adopt healthy lifestyles, and spread awareness within their communities. Hon'ble Villianur MLA, Shri B. Ravicoumar, appreciated the efforts of the NSS volunteers and urged everyone to work together in building a healthy and drug-free society. Dr. Vidhya Baskaran, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Sri Venkateshwaraa Group of Institutions, motivated the volunteers to continue their commitment towards community service and social responsibility through various awareness programmes.
The volunteers actively interacted with the public during the rally, encouraging them to join the movement against drug abuse and promoting the slogan "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life." Their enthusiastic participation reflected their dedication to social responsibility and community well-being.
The programme concluded successfully with a renewed commitment from all participants to promote a drug-free society and inspire positive change through awareness and community engagement.
