World Earth Day observed with Environmental Initiatives at Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology
Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology, Ariyur, Puducherry, under the guidance of its Chairman, Mr. B. Ramachandran, observed World Earth Day on April 22, 2026, by promoting environmental protection initiatives. As part of this effort, the college, in collaboration with the Bisleri Foundation under its CSR initiative, marked the completion of one year since signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collecting and recycling single-use plastics and Multi-Layered Plastic (MLP) waste.
As a continuation of this initiative, the consistent efforts of NSS officers, faculty members, and student volunteers over the past one year resulted in the collection of approximately 146 kilograms of single-use and MLP plastic waste, which was handed over to the Bisleri Foundation for recycling. On this occasion, various awareness programmes were conducted for students. Activities such as campus cleaning, plastic collection drives, and tree plantation were carried out in association with the Bisleri Foundation. The event was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. S. Pradeep Devaneyan, and the Vice Principal, Dr. K. B. Jayaraman.
As part of the programme, in exchange for the collected 147 kilograms of MLP plastic waste, the Bisleri Foundation presented two seating benches made from recycled plastic to the college. These benches were handed over by Mr. J. Ayyappan, CSR Executive, Bisleri International Private Limited, under the CSR initiative titled "Bottle for Change." It is noteworthy that each bench was manufactured using approximately 60 kilograms of recycled plastic. Additionally, used pens were collected from students and sent for recycling. In return, biodegradable pens were distributed to the students as an eco-friendly alternative.
The Principal and the Vice Principal, expressed their appreciations to the NSS Officers Mr. L. Selvakumar (dept. of EEE) and Mr. V. Karthikeyan (dept. of Mechanical engineering), Heads of all the Departments, NSS coordinators, and NSS student volunteers for their valuable contributions in making the event a success. The arrangements for the programme were efficiently made by the NSS Officer Mr. L. Selvakumar (dept. of EEE), along with NSS Coordinators Mrs. K. Mayavathi (dept. of ECE), Mrs. A. Lalitha (dept. of MBA), and Mr. E. Vinayagamoorthi (dept. of CSE).
