Global Immersion Program Enriches Students with Cross-Cultural and Professional Experiences

August 5 to August 16, 2024, Kedah, Malaysia.

Our internship students, recently participated in the Global Immersion Program at AIMST University in Bedong, Kedah, Malaysia. Held from August 5 to August 16, 2024, the program was orchestrated by the School of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Professions, and aimed to provide an immersive learning experience in advanced physiotherapy techniques and international collaboration.

The program began with an orientation session, offering participants an introduction to the program structure and cultural norms, followed by campus tours and ice-breaking activities to build community and enhance communication skills among students. The curriculum included in-depth sessions on men's and women's sexual health physiotherapy, both theoretical and practical, allowing students to develop hands-on skills in managing sexual health issues. Participants also gained valuable insights into local history and culture through visits to the Bujang Valley and Penang and engaged in physical activity with a hike up Gunung Jerai, complemented by a relaxing beach visit.

Educational visits to the Anatomy Dissection Hall and Museum, as well as Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, provided students with exposure to various medical environments and an understanding of the local healthcare system. Practical workshops, including CPR training, added to the professional development opportunities. The program concluded with leisure activities at C-Mart & Central Square, where students interacted with local vendors and experienced Malaysian culture firsthand, culminating in a closing ceremony with a quiz, certificate presentation, and feedback session.

The successful completion of the Global Immersion Program reflects the students' commitment to cross-cultural learning and international collaboration. The program was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Komala and Dr. Tharushini from AIMST University, with organizational oversight from Deputy Dean Dr. Kshtrashal Sing, Prof. Anand Babu, and Prof. Paulraj from Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Physiotherapy. This initiative underscores the importance of global exposure in enhancing both academic and professional growth for students in the field of physiotherapy.
