On 27/9/2024 the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SriVenkateswaraa College of Engineering and Technology(SVCET) organized a cleaning drive at the  Muthumariamman Temple and Srinivasa Perumal Temple premises located near our college. This initiative aimed to promote cleanliness, community service, and environmental awareness among students. The main objective of event is to clean and beautify the temple premises, to instill a sense of responsibility community service among NSS volunteers, and to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene in public spaces.

Volunteers conducted an initial survey of the area to identify the most affected spots requiring attention and gathered in to groups for collecting various types of waste, including plastic bottles, wrappers, and organic waste, ensuring proper segregation for recycling. The team cleaned the temple surroundings, including pathways, gardens, and adjacent areas, using brooms, dustpans, and cleaning agents. As a part of the initiative, saplings were planted around the temple to enhance greenery and contribute to the environment.

Informational pamphlets were distributed to visitors and locals, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. The event saw participation from twenty  NSS volunteers, along with three  faculty members and local community volunteers. Their enthusiasm and teamwork contributed significantly to the success of the drive. The temple area was significantly cleaner and more inviting for visitors. Increased interaction between students and local residents, fostering a sense of community. Enhanced awareness regarding cleanliness and the environment among participants and community members. The cleaning drive was a successful endeavor that not only beautified the temple premises but also reinforced the NSS's commitment to community service and environmental responsibility.

The Geotech photos will be submitted to the HRCE, Department, Villupuram District as part of our report, demonstrating our contribution to the upkeep of local heritage. Selected photos will be featured on our college website to inform students and the broader community about our NSS activities and encourage future participation. These geotech photographs serve as a valuable resource for promoting our community initiatives and demonstrating the positive impact of student-led efforts. We look forward to sharing these images with the Hindu Religious Charities & Endowment Department, Villupuram District  and showcasing them on our college platform.

We plan to continue such initiatives in the future to further our efforts in promoting cleanliness and community spirit. We would like to thank the college administration, faculty members, local residents, and all  NSS volunteers for their support and participation in making this event a success.
