The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, through MY Bharat, organized the *“Nasha Mukt Yuva” Walkathon for Viksit Bharat* on 4 October 2026 at Kamban Kalai Arangam, near Anna Statue, Puducherry. The initiative aimed to create widespread awareness among young people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote the vision of a drug-free India. The programme emphasized the importance of youth participation in building a healthy, responsible, and progressive society.

The NSS Programme Officer and NSS volunteers of *Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Engineering and Technology (SVCET), Ariyur*, participated in the walkathon with enthusiasm and a strong commitment to the cause. The walkathon was flagged off by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, with the participation of students and members of the community. The event provided a platform for young people to demonstrate their commitment to social welfare and raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.

Drug abuse is a serious social concern that can adversely affect the physical and mental health of individuals, disrupt family relationships, and negatively impact education and career development. The walkathon highlighted the importance of making informed decisions, adopting healthy lifestyles, and avoiding harmful substances. It also encouraged students to act as responsible ambassadors by sharing the message of drug prevention with their friends, families, and the wider community.

Through their participation, the SVCET NSS volunteers demonstrated the values of service, discipline, social responsibility, and active citizenship. The event reinforced the importance of collective efforts involving educational institutions, youth organizations, families, and the public in preventing drug abuse. The walkathon also motivated young people to contribute positively to society by promoting awareness and supporting drug-free initiatives.

The programme strengthened awareness among NSS volunteers about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraged them to promote healthy and drug-free lifestyles. It inspired youth participation in community awareness activities and reinforced their responsibility to spread the message of drug prevention. The initiative supported the vision of *“Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat”* and encouraged collective action towards building a safe, healthy, and drug-free nation.
