In commemoration of World Oceans Day 2021, NGC (ECO CLUB) in collaboration with the student council organized a virtual photography contest on the theme “The ocean; Life and Livelihood”- on 08.06.2021. The programme was planned and organized under the guidance of respected principal madam, Dr. Malliga.M and it was greatly supported by Dr.R.Rajeswari, Vice Principal of the institution. The Photographs were invited from the students on the theme of world ocean day.

The objective of World Oceans Day is to create awareness among humans about the benefits enjoyed from the ocean. As the ocean provides a variety of life-saving medicinal compounds, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer drugs, now it’s our turn to conserve the sea and marine resources for sustainable development. This day is the day for humanity to celebrate the ocean.

The concept of World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. This idea emerged to celebrate the world’s shared ocean and humans' personal connection to the sea. This raised awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and the important ways people can help protect it.

The students have actively participated in the competition. The photographs were evaluated based on the theme and the winners were awarded with e- certificates.  This made our students develop strong insight and shed light on the wonder of the ocean. This programme sensitized the people on oceans contribution to our life source, supporting humanity and every other organism on Earth
