 Down syndrome is a condition in which a person is born with an extra copy of chromosome 21. People with Down syndrome can have physical problems, as well as intellectual disabilities. Every person born with Down syndrome is different. People with this syndrome may also have other health problems. Down syndrome occurs in around 1 in every 700 babies born. physical characteristics of Down syndrome can include eyes that slant upward, skin folds on the inner corner of the upper eyelid, white spots on the iris, low muscle tone, small stature and a short neck, a flat nasal bridge.

                       In commemoration of the world down syndrome day, Indirani college of nursing has organized the awareness programme under the theme of “we decide” on March 21, 2022 at 3.30-4.30 pm. This Programme was planned and organized under the guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Malliga , and it was greatly supported by Dr.R.Rajeswari IQAC coordinator cum Vice Principal of the Institution .It created great awareness  for the students and they gained good knowledge about down syndrome .

                                 B.sc Nursing I Year actively participated in this awareness programme and gained knowledge regarding down syndrome. The programme came to an end by 4.30 pm. This program was organized by Ms.Priya, Lecturer Department of Child Health Nursing with cheerful spirits. The participants gave good feedback about this session.
